We meet five Christian families, each with a gay or lesbian child. Parents talk about their marriages and church-going, their children's childhood and coming out, their reactions, and changes over time. The stories told by these nine parents and four adult children alternate with talking heads - Protestant and Jewish theologians - and with film clips of fundamentalist preachers and pundits and news clips of people in the street. They discuss scripture and biblical scholarship. The first he indulges in with great passion; the second, alas, he can only admire from afar. He decides to bridge the divide with a letter. Unbeknownst to them, these different souls will share the same stage in a play written by Fate, one which involves the themes of love, tragedy, and redemption. The characters in the movie are fictitious except for Theresa Chan. Deaf and blind since she was 14, Theresa who is now 61 is a remarkable woman who has triumphed over her disabilities to live an amazing life. She is the film's beacon, a symbol of strength and hope.

The Scarlet Letter 2004 - (Drama/Mystery/Thriller, South Korea, 115 min)

Ki-hoon is a hot shot police detective with a problem. Both his wife Su-hyeon and mistress Ga-hee are pregnant at the same time, and all three of them are on a painful emotional rollercoaster. Parallel to the personal stories, he is working on a murder case in which the husband of Kyeong-hie was killed. She is a suspect, but her possible motivations for the crime are complicated. What gives the love triangle an unusual twist is that Su-hyeon and Ga-hee were lovers before either met Ki-hoon. Su-hyeon fell in love with him, but Ga-hee pursued and married him so that she wouldn't lose her girlfriend completely.
